The Quokka is native to Rottnest Island
Coming in February 2015 is the widely recognised Rottnest Channel Swim, an exciting event taking place in the waters between the Western Australian coastline and Rottnest Island. Over an open water swim of 19.7 kilometres, swimmers race from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island solo or as part of a team, with a support crew rowing alongside to cheer them on. The exciting and challenging event is considered Rottnest Island’s biggest of the year.
While registrations have closed for the upcoming event, it is expected that many people will watch and cheer on the swimmers, and enjoy a comfortable day on Rottnest Island.
A favourite of visitors to Rottnest Island is the Quokka, a small marsupial of the same size as a domestic cat, and related to the kangaroo. Quokkas are a nocturnal animal, sleeping in the shade during the day, but often seen taking a chance at finding some food.
You will find plenty of things to see on Rottnest Island, and afterwards, you’ll find that Rottnest Island features many different restaurants, cafes, and bars. After enjoying the Rottnest Channel Swim, you can find something to eat and perhaps follow the Wadjemup Walk Trail.
